Frequently asked questions
Billing and Account [Questions 4]

1. What is a Dedicated Server?

We provide dedicated resources and you will be billed on the total capacity assigned to your account.

2. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all credit cards and wire transfers.

3. Is bandwidth usage calculated from outbound, inbound, or inbound+outbound traffic?

The inbound bandwidth is free, while you will be charged for the outbound bandwidth only.

4. What are the IOPS charges?

We do not restrict IOPs with respect to the disk size and there are no charges for IOPs.

Storage [Questions 5]

1. What is your storage technology?

Synccore Storage technology is Cluster-Aware Storage which allows you to specify on which cluster data can be replicated or backed up. By default, data is replicated across different storage servers. We have completely different independent storage clusters for running Production VM’s and different clusters for Backup snapshots so that you get the best performance on your virtual machines with reliability.

2. What type of storage will be allocated for my production workloads?

We provide full blown physical SSD storage for the production workloads.

3. Do you provide hyperconverged/hybrid storage for the production environment?

We are not using HYPERCONVRGED or HYBRID storage in our technology as it has below issues that are reported by many industry veterans. HYPERCONVRGED and HYBRID storage are designed with a blend of flash-based solid-state disk and hard disk drives. There are reports and tests done on Hybrid storage where either part of the hybrid drive stops working, the entire device fails. Data recoveries, in general, tend to be more complicated for a hybrid system compared to either an individual SSD or HDD storage. A hybrid drive will run considerably faster than a HDD but slower than a pure SSD. Which won’t give you the performance that Synccore is providing to its channel partners for their end customer’s needs.

4. What is the read/write speed I would get on my production servers?

On every production VM disk you would get more than 900Mbps of read and more than 1000Mbps of write speed.

5. Is there any restriction on IOPs with respect to the size of the disk?

No, there is no restriction on IOPs. You will get around 15000 IOPs on every VM disk irrespective of its size.

Performance [Questions 2]

1. What is the read/write speed I would get on my production servers?

On every production VM disk you would get more than 900Mbps of read and more than 1000Mbps of write speed.

2. Why Synccore is better than AWS/Azure/GCP?

- Synccore does not provide restrictions on IOPs on the basis of disk size. You will get around 15000 IOPs on every VM disk irrespective of its size;

- There is no extra charge for the IOPs.

- We provide secure console access of the virtual machine so that you can troubleshoot the VMs eg: booting into safe mode by pressing the F8 key etc.

Hypervisor [Questions 4]

1. What type of virtualization do you use?

We use KVM as hypervisor, which is Type1 hypervisor.

2. How KVM is better than VMWare and Hyper-V?

- KVM is cost effective scalable and very powerful hypervisor as compared to VMWare and Hyper-V;

- The CPU management of KVM is far better as compared to VMWare and Hyper-V;

- ESXi generally requires more time to create and start a server than KVM. ESXi also has slower performance when running servers, although this difference may be insignificant for typical loads. In terms of speed, KVM runs applications at near-native speeds, faster than other industry hypervisors, according to the SPECvirt_sc2013 benchmark;

3. Would I get access to the Hypervisor?

No, you would not get direct access to the hypervisor. However you are able to do all the virtual machine and network related operation from the Management Portal.

4. Would you provide different hypervisors apart from KVM?

We only provide KVM hypervisors.

Backup, Disaster Recovery and Replication [Questions 6]

1. What backup tool do you use?

We have our own Synccore proprietary backup tool for backup.

2. What type of backups do you offer?

We provide both Image level and file/folder level backups. The image level backup is used for BMR in case of disaster, whereas the file/folder level backup is used to backup and restore critical files and folders;

3. What is the retention policy?

There is no restriction on the retention policy. You can keep the number of backup images or the length of backup chain as per your requirement.

4. What tool do you use for replication?

We use carbonite/doubletake for replication.

5. What is the RPO of replication?

We provide near zero RPO.

6. What is my RTO in case of disaster?

In case of disaster the RTO per VM will be 25 minutes.

Management Portal [Questions 6]

1. Is it possible to white label the management portal?

Yes, it's possible to white-label the management portal. For more information you will need to get in-touch with our pre-sales representative.

2. Do you offer disk resize while the virtual machine is in running state?

Yes, On-the-fly disk resize is available on our Cloud Management Porta.

3. Do you offer add/remove a disk while the virtual machine is in running state?

Yes, this option is available under our Cloud Management Portal.

4. Do you offer CPU and Memory resize while the virtual machine is in running state?

We are working on this feature and should be available in our next major release.

5. Shall I attach and detach the network card while the virtual machine is in running state?

Yes, On-the-fly attach and detach is supported.

6. Do you offer console access to the virtual machine?

Yes, VNC access is available under Cloud Management Portal.
